Hyperfabric
Posted by pfitz under Technology
Another new technology that is being developed is the Hyperfabric. I first read the story about it at Discovery Channel News. You can go there to read the full story about this amazing product and what makes it work.
To whet your appetite, so to speak, the Hyperfabric is a touch-sensitive, flexible fabric that works like a computer screen. It’s like a touch screen that is flexible in 3-D and is sensitive to the amount of pressure you apply. You can even reach in and “grab” things. You can even watch a video of it to see how it works!
Practical applications? It could become a flexible (pardon the pun) tool for interacting with a computer, potentially allowing the individual to get away from the keyboard and mouse. Just like some people work better with a touch screen, this takes that interface to a whole new level. Depending on the applications they come up with, it could significantly change Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) for the better.
So, go on! Click the link and read the story! The video’s interesting (once you get past the CAT commercial), if for no other reason than to see it work and then to envision if they were instead projecting a Windows-style interface or a 3-D game.
