Google Earth Improves
Posted by pfitz under Technology
If you haven’t had a chance to visit (and download) Google Earth, it’s really a must-have. It’s a fantastic mapping program with sattelite photos, 3-D buildings in many major cities, driving directions, and an interface that feels like 3-D. You can type in ‘Paris’ and the globe will turn and you will zoom over to Paris. Lots of great stuff here!
Now National Geographic has gotten into the mix. The National Geographic Society has taken all the articles they’ve ever done on Africa and linked them in. If you turn on the NGS layer in Google Earth, you’ll see the NGS logo in various places on the map. Clicking on them will get you links to more details, articles, and sometimes even videos! NGS also did an “African Megaflyover” that was featured in September’s issue, and where you see red airplanes on the Google Earth map you get the NGS details, which take you down to ONE METER!
What an AWESOME educational tool! And for any age (I’m enjoying it myself!).
