The state legislature of Indiana has provided a very gracious gift to the residents of Indiana. It’s called INSPIRE. I’m still surprised at how many people in Indiana don’t know about this. It’s already there and free for everyone who lives in the state. INSPIRE has actually existed since 1998 but the last couple of years have seen the addition of even more resources.

INSPIRE is a collection of over 25 databases that are typically only provided by libraries. Some of them are usually offered only by academic libraries. Regardless, there is a vast amount of information available in this, “Indiana’s Online Research Library.”

When you need reliable, verifiable, quantifiable, accurate information, go where the experts go. INSPIRE offers magazines, books, encyclopedias, and other resources to all Indiana residents. Research current events, science, business, health, notable people, hobbies, and much more from your library, school, home or office. Information includes:

  • Thousands of magazines and journals with full-text
  • Hundreds of newspapers from around the U.S.
  • Material for students in elementary school in INSPIRE Kids and junior high and high school in the Student Research Center
  • Other topics and resources include: Academics, Business, Careers, Literature, Health & Medicine, Biographies, Education, Spanish-language

The best part of this is that college students, who get used to having databases like these around while they’re in college, will now be able to continue using them after they graduate. As long as they stay in Indiana. :-)
