Search Engine Land
Posted by pfitz under Technology
There’s a great new website out there, created by Danny Sullivan, that pulls together information and discussion about search engines. It’s called Search Engine Land. It’s a place for content about search engines as well as community, in the discussion and use of search engines.
As librarians, we have an imperative in learning about search engines, how they work, and how to use them more effectively. We provide library patrons with advice on using these search engines as research tools, but how much do we really know about how they work? Sure, we emphasize databases and bibliographies, but whether we want to accept it or not, search engines are another tool that people are already using for research. It is critical that we know how best to use them.
So visit http://searchengineland.com/ and add its RSS feeds to whatever aggregator you use. Or if you prefer daily emails, subscribe to their SearchCap, a daily recap of search engine news. As a librarian, you owe it to your patrons. And to yourself.
